The
Group
The
32nd Streatham (St. Bartholomew’s) Scout Group was officially
registered with the Scout Association on 16th September 1963. The cub
pack had been established a few years earlier. A Beaver group for younger
members was added in the 1980s. The group now has over 60 members and
is one of the largest in the Lambeth Scout District.
St
Bartholomew’s scouts aims to promote the development of young
people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual
potential as individuals and becoming responsible citizens in their
local community.
St.
Bartholomew’s is a catholic scout group, which aims to bring up
each child in the knowledge and values of Christ. Our badge, worn on
the back of the neckerchief, pictures three knives which represent those
used to martyr St Bartholomew.
Our
group is run by a committed team of leaders who give up their time voluntarily
to provide exciting activities for the young people. They undergo a
program of training as laid down by the scout association. All activities
are well-planned with the safety of young people always put first.
Membership
of the group is conditional on a young person accepting the aims and
principles of the scouting movement. Scouts work in teams for the greater
good of all involved.
Scouting
is not just another youth club where parents send their children to
be baby-sat on a Thursday evening. It is a real learning experience.
Scouts learn through taking part in enjoyable activities, and through
games, activities and badges, scouts develop skills such as as the following:
-
Team-building
-
Leadership
-
Problem-solving and decision making
-
Initiative
-
Independence
-
Perseverance
-
Commitment
-
Reliability
These are all highly valued by employers.
